Interview with Colleen Weathers from Devmountain Admissions

Colleen Weathers is a friendly admissions counselor at Devmountain. We sat down with her to ask her a few questions about her work life and home life. Here’s what she had to say!

What Led You to Devmountain?

What Led You to Devmountain?

I was introduced to Devmountain a couple of years ago when my husband enrolled in the Quality Assurance program. Watching him become immersed in something new and thrive was so inspiring! Also, his new career completely changed our lives for the better. When a position opened on the Admissions team, I knew that I wanted to jump in and guide others through this decision with the hopes that their lives would change for the better, too.

What Is Your Favorite Part About Working With Students?

I love hearing people’s stories and learning about their backgrounds. The people I talk to are all following a different path that ultimately leads them to Devmountain where they come together to explore their shared passion.

How Are You Able to Help Students Who Are Thinking About Enrolling?

Ask me all the questions. I can answer them and provide guidance for the next steps. Coding and bootcamps aren’t the perfect fit for everyone, but I can answer all the questions needed to help someone decide if this is the right move for them.

What Would You Tell a Student Who Is Nervous About Going Through the Application Process?

Some people just need to hear that they can do it! I am here to be an advocate for everyone that is considering a life change like enrolling at Devmountain. When considering a major transition, self-doubt and fear can take over and I am here to tell students that they are capable of amazing things.

What Do Potential Students Need to Know Before They Make a Decision on Whether or Not to Enroll?

The biggest question to ask is, “Can I truly commit the time and energy that this program requires?” Immersive programs are no joke! Our students eat, breathe, and sleep their course material. Successful students are the ones who give it their all for the duration of their program.

What Are Your Hobbies and Why?

What Are Your Hobbies and Why?

I love to knit and crochet! My very first job was at a yarn store where I spent most of the day knitting by a fireplace, living the dream. I love that yarn can be anything. Start with a skein of yarn and the possibilities are endless. Socks? A sweater? A new cozy blanket? Why not all three! I am also an avid reader, hiker, and baker!

If You Could Be a Muppet, Disney Character, or Super Hero, Who Would You Be and Why?

This one is so hard! I’m going to go with Storm from X-men. It would be rad to be able to create whatever weather you want on a day-to-day basis. I could make sure that the holidays are always snowy, I will never get rained out on a camping trip again, and the wind would no longer be a problem for me if I’m having a good hair day.

What Is One Thing People Are Often Surprised to Learn About You?

What Is One Thing People Are Often Surprised to Learn About You?

I am a trained and licensed massage therapist! Although I don’t practice professionally, I still love to learn about anatomy and different healing modalities. Now, I work on friends and family when they need it and I am a volunteer, providing massages to refugees.

If You Could Save One Object from Your Burning Home, What Would it Be and Why?

Assuming my family also makes it out safely, I want to say that I would grab something sentimental or meaningful, but I would probably instinctually grab my chapstick.

Any Other Advice or Insights You’re Dying to Give to Students?

Any Other Advice or Insights You’re Dying to Give to Students?

If you are interested, the worst thing you can do is wait to reach out. Devmountain can change lives and I know because it has changed my life personally. I believe in what we do here and I am beyond excited to share it with you.
