Meet Michael Roseweir
Front-End Web Developer at Scorpion, Michael Roseweir, graduated from our Web Development program in 2021 after a career in automotive sales. Now, he’s sharing his story and advice for future students.
What were you doing before Devmountain?
Before Devmountain, I was in sales. I spent a few years in retail automotive sales and services and was a mortgage loan originator for seven months prior to going to Devmountain.
Why did you want to learn to code?
I have a few family members and friends who are in the tech industry and they really pushed me to make the jump into the field. I had some basic HTML and CSS experience from high school and college, and I knew that I loved being able to build something amazing from nothing.
What made you choose Devmountain?
The number of good reviews from previous students and my proximity to the Dallas campus were definitely key factors when selecting Devmountain.
What was your experience like?
From the moment that I started the first lecture, everyone made me feel as though I was a part of a team that was all learning something together. I came with such little coding experience that I felt like I was going to be behind, but the faculty and peers made me feel comfortable and pushed me to learn so much in a small amount of time.
How’d you land your new role, how long did it take, and do you have any tips?
I was actually sent the job listing from a friend who was applying for another role within the company that I now work for. I submitted my application, went through a few interviews, and got an offer about two weeks later!Â
To new graduates: Keep pushing. Don’t give up, and don’t stop coding. It is tough out there to find that first role. I submitted 250+ applications and had a multitude of phone screens/interviews until I was able to secure my future role.
Do you have any advice for current and future web development students?
At times it may feel like you’re drinking from a firehose and not retaining as much information as you would like, but keep on pushing and keep grinding, it is so incredibly worth it.
