The Application Process

Step 1: Start Your Application

Apply online. There is no commitment and it only takes a few minutes to begin. Applicants must live near or be willing to relocate near the Perficient office sponsoring the cohort. Past cohorts have been in Detroit, Minneapolis, Lafayette, and Dallas.

Complete the online application by Feb. 27 (space is limited, program may fill sooner). We strongly recommend spending at least 10–20 hours learning the concepts described in Step 2 in a language of your choice if you do not have knowledge of basic programming syntax.

Step 2: Take the Technical Assessment

This step is an assessment to help us understand your experience and aptitude with basic coding concepts.

Prior to the skill review, applicants should prepare by doing the following:

First, make sure your basic programming skills are sharp, including lists/arrays, loops, basic if-statements, data types, and basic object orientation. It is also helpful to know basic functions.

For more information, see Hackbright’s Technical Interview Prep.

We recommend taking the technical assessment no later than 1 week after submitting your application.

Step 3: Talk with Us!

After your Technical Interview, we’ll want to chat to make sure the program will be a good fit for you.

Applicants will benefit from familiarity with control flow and looping, creating and manipulating datatypes, creating and manipulating lists/arrays, algorithmic problem-solving, and conditional logic.

Interviews will be conducted in the coding language of your choice.

The browser-based interview is similar to that of the site repl.it. We recommend practicing there to familiarize yourself. The only difference is that the interviewer will be able to type and evaluate code.

Step 4: Wait for Your Results

Your application is complete. If you’re cleared for admission, we’ll reach out with the final steps to enroll!

When it came time for submitting applications, I was prepared for the interviews and the types of questions I would be given. The advice I was given at Devmountain was, ‘It’s not about what you know; it’s about how fast you can adapt and learn something new.’
